When do I adjust to life in America?

    America

It's been two years and two months since I came to the United States.

I feel I'm getting used to life in America these days.

    The reasons are

    • I can understand about 80 to 90% of what native speakers say.

    • I am able to respond to the questions and enjoy conversation.

    • I have got a driver's license and got own car, so that I can go anywhere I want to.

In my first year in the U.S., I avoided English because I was afraid to speak it. At the grocery store, I always used the self-checkout system. (The cashiers at American are friendly and talk to you.) But now I use the cashier, and I can have a conversation with people I just met.

On a different note, smartphone made living abroad much easier.

I can use Google Maps to go places without getting lost, I can quickly look up any English words I don't understand and I can buy anything I need online.

Even so, what made me feel comfortable to living abroad were the analogous things, such as being able to talk to people and being able to move freely.

this is really great advice. you should start a podcast. Call it Aya in Arizona podcast and talk about your experiences, good places to go and things to do. You would gain a following because i suspect that many japanese are beginning to live in US and more specifically Arizona.

Hi hom, thank you for nice comment.
I like to listen podcast but I don't think I'm the type of doing it.
Yea, I think so too, many Japanese people are living in Arizona.
I heard "Kurazushi", famous Japanese Conveyor belt sushi restaurant, is coming soon in Chandler!! Can't wait!! I hope it's as nice as ones in Japan.
